If you are looking for a clean and natural way to pamper yourself… or a beautiful DIY gift, this simple sugar scrub is for you!!
The secret to achieving a fluffy, soft, and light texture is to use extra-fine granulated sugar. It provides exfoliation without the rough abrasion to your skin.
For the coconut oil, I usually recommend using “unrefined” for skincare. This means it has not been processed and still contains many of the beneficial properties of natural coconut. (It also has more of a coconut-y aroma, as opposed to refined coconut oil, which does not have much of a smell at all.)
For the essential oil, I am a huge fan of doTerra because all of their oils are Therapeutic Grade, meaning they are safe for internal consumption. If I am putting essential oils on my skin, they will be absorbed into my body, which is essentially comparable to ingestion.
I don’t know about you, but I live by the rule that I don’t put anything on my skin that I wouldn’t put in my mouth!
This is precisely what I love about making my own skin care products – I have control of the ingredients and there are no unrecognizable chemicals or possible carcinogens.
For the rose petals, I found these dried petals at World Market for $1.99!! So much easier than drying your own fresh roses, although that is definitely an option for a more personal touch 🙂
The Recipe:
- 2 cups extra-fine granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unrefined coconut oil
- 5-6 drops lavender essential oil
- 2 Tbsp dried rose petals
Combine ingredients in food processor. Pulse several times, scraping down the sides frequently. Spoon into sanitized Mason jars. Label and decorate as desired!
